Recommendation Service: Academic Excellence's independent recommendation service is for home educators who would like to receive customized curriculum recommendations based upon the achievement test results. Academic Excellence is not affiliated with any curriculum publisher and provides objective, experienced feedback on curriculum. The Academic Excellence staff have been involved in home education since 1987 and have extensive experience with curriculum providers and the spectrum of homeschooling philosophies.
The resource recommendations from Academic Excellence are strategically selected to strengthen and improve competency and mastery in academic areas presented in standardized testing. These key selected resources make excellent "tutoring aides" and addenda to any curriculum. Our goal in developing the Academic Excellence recommendation service is to provide parents with user friendly, economical resources that strengthen students' academic achievement and testing skills; focus tutoring and teaching efforts; and facilitate preparation for and success in ACT, SAT, and college testing. All recommendations are based upon the student's test scores and our staff's extensive experience with home education. Each of the primary recommendations are provided in correlation to individual students' scores to questions and sections of standardized tests. Secondary resources are often challenging, educational games or less formal learning practices. Each recommendation is measured by ease of use by parents; levels of response, enjoyment, and success by students; and affordability. By targeting and addressing students' deficit areas with easy to use and economical tutorial resources, test scores, grades, and confidence elevate and improve. Recommendations in students' areas of proficiency keep students engaged, challenged, and progressing in all subject areas. We have found this to be an easy, economical way to ensure academic excellence and success.

I use these every year for end of year testing in my home schooling. Heather on 11th May 2020
The state we live in requires homeschoolers to do standardized testing each year. We've used the Iowa test in the past (for about 5 years), and it is a lot. For the last 2 years we've used the California (CAT), and I am satisfied with it. It is a bit shorter than the Iowa (covers 3 areas—reading, grammar, and math—whereas the Iowa also includes social studies and science). I like that we can do the CAT online and the results are available quickly (same day). You also have the flexibility to do as many or as few sections per day as is suitable for each student. In addition, I appreciate the option of "premium" scoring (for only $3 extra), which uses charts and graphs to enhance the understanding of test scores. The only thing that threw us off (during the test) was a question that utilized the term "morpheme" in the grammar section—which simply means the smallest unit of a language (such as -ing). Apparently we haven't encountered that term in any of our grammar curricula thus far. Sara K. on 16th Apr 2020
I am just wanting to keep a record of how my son is progressing throughout highschool - we also used the CAT untimed in 6th, and timed in 8th. We have found that the CAT timed test has proven an accurate representation and excellent way to measure his growth over the years. I love having the Stanine and percentile scores as well as approximate grade equivalent. Even though the information is just for me, I feel more confident by having this benchmark. The CAT is a great tool to use if you homeschool your child/children. My daughter recently took the CAT for 10th grade. The test set up was user friendly. Taking the test online was much better than coloring in the little circles in person testing requires. The test was broken down into sections - grammar, math, and reading. It didn't make the test seem so daunting to the student. I would definitely recommend this product to parents of homeschooled children. Test results are delivered to your email right away and they offer products to help the student prepare for the test beforehand. María Diaz on 24th Oct 2019
I was so glad to come across this resource. It was suggested by another homeschool mom and it was so easy to register and complete the testing for my kids. The results were sent almost immediately and have helped me to identify areas of strength and areas for improvement. I'm excited to have a baseline to compare to at the end of the year. This test is an excellent tool to help see where your child compares to others. This is great for parents who procrastinated and need to quickly get in the end of year standardized tests. This is not an in-depth personal analysis of the students skills, this is a standardized test. The computer does all the hard work, as an adult, you just have to make sure testing procedures are followed. Beth on 26th Aug 2019
This was a great experience as we tried testing for the first time rather than an assessment by a local qualified teacher. We have home schooled for a combined total (2 boys) of 16 years so far, and I felt like it would be a good thing to do the testing this year, since my older son is starting high school this fall of 2019. The tests were easy to work through in their layout and methods. I would recommend them to anyone else! We had a couple of issues with one of the boys' tests where a section was accidentally checked as though he had completed it when he hadn't. It was done by the company, and when I called, they reset it for him and everything turned out fine. Excellent response with customer service! SK on 13th Aug 2019
This was my first year testing my first grader and this test was perfect! We used the timed, online version and it was very user friendly! I loved the fact that we could preview a question from each section to know what to expect as well as know exactly how much time we would spend on each section. I also appreciated the reading aloud of each question, since my son is still learning to read on a basic level. I plan on using this test as long as I need to test my kids! Unknown on 6th Aug 2019
This was a great testing experience. Very simple to purchase and the kids started right away. Very enjoyable for us all. Steven Cartrette on 11th Jul 2019
Thank you for making standardized testing and scoring easy for us! Heather on 4th Jul 2019
